Glo Skin Beauty Under Eye Concealer - Sand

Sand is the soft, sand-colored choice in this range. A compact with two mineral shades that you can use separately or mixed, for the blue-grey shadow under your eyes that you can never quite get rid of with foundation alone.

Why it works

Dark circles are rarely just a matter of not getting enough sleep. What you see is usually a blue-grey shadow showing through thin skin. This is first and foremost a color issue and only secondly a coverage issue, which is why there are two shades in this compact. One neutralizes the color of the shadow, the other matches your skin. If you mix them according to what your skin needs at that moment, you actually remove the shadow instead of just placing a light stripe over it.

The pigments are mineral-based and finely milled, giving you high coverage with very little product. The base is more nourishing than a classic concealer: safflower oil, rich in linoleic acid, keeps the delicate skin around your eyes supple, and an antioxidant complex with vitamins C and E helps protect your skin against external influences. The texture is creamy, easy to blend, and sets with a soft, matte finish that stays put.

About this shade

Sand is a soft sand tone in the light to light-medium range, neutral with a hint of warmth. It usually suits skin that isn't truly pale, but doesn't look distinctly yellow or pink either. The compact contains two shades around that color, so you can mix the correcting and covering shades to match your own skin. The manufacturer does not provide an exact depth per shade, so if you are hesitating between two colors, feel free to let me know.

For whom

For anyone who mainly sees that shadow under their eyes in the morning, or wants to cover small discolorations around the nose and the corners of the mouth. Also, if the skin around your eyes feels dry or delicate: this formula is soft and moisturizing enough not to settle into fine lines immediately. And also if you barely wear makeup normally, because one layer in the right spot does more for your face than a full foundation.

How to use it

Always after your foundation, not before. If you apply concealer first, you will wipe it away with your foundation. Take a small amount on a concealer brush if you want full coverage, or warm the product up with your fingertip and then gently dab it in with a sponge for a lighter, more natural coverage. Focus on the shadow itself, usually in the inner corner and just under the eye, and don't fill in the entire half-moon area down to your cheek. Feel free to adjust the mixing ratio of the two shades with the seasons: in February, your skin is lighter than in September.

My advice

The mistake I see most often is choosing a concealer that is too light. I understand the reasoning, because lighter looks more awake, but in practice, you end up with pale spectacles on your face and the shadow actually stands out more. Rather, choose a shade that is close to your skin tone and correct the color, not the brightness. Also, give your eye cream a full minute to absorb before you start; on dry eye skin, every concealer will settle into fine lines, and then it isn't the product's fault, but the base's. And keep it small: in the studio, I work per eye with an amount the size of a grain of rice, warmed up on the back of my hand. You can always add more if you have too little. If you have too much, you have to take it off again.
