Why it works

Matte and comfortable are often seen as opposites, and usually with good reason: a matte color lasts a long time because it contains little oil, and that is precisely what makes lips dry. Glo solves this by carrying the matte pigments in shea butter and mango seed oil, fats that keep the lips soft without letting the color slide. It also contains an antioxidant complex with vitamins C and E and plant extracts, which protects the lips against external influences.

The texture is velvety and soft-matte. The color applies fully in one layer, does not smudge, does not bleed into the fine lines around your mouth, and barely leaves a trace.

About this shade

Crimson is a full, cool red: a blue-red, not orangey. Cool reds make teeth look visibly whiter, which makes this shade more wearable than many people expect if they normally don't dare to wear red. Opaque and clearly present.

For whom

For those who want a color that lasts through a long day without needing a touch-up every hour: a workday, a party, an evening that runs late. Even if you have fine lines around your mouth, matte is often the better choice because it is less likely to bleed than gloss. If you have very dry lips, this is not your first choice, unless you apply a balm underneath.

How to use it

First, trace the edges and then fill in the entire lip, otherwise, you will see a border when it fades. Blot with a tissue after applying and add a second thin layer. That second layer is what makes it last for hours. Use light pressure, the stick is softer than it looks, and sharpen it with a crayon sharpener. With a red like this, a lip liner underneath is extra worthwhile: red is the color that bleeds the fastest.

A tip from me

Matte is often discouraged for those with dry lips, and I think that’s an oversimplification. It’s all about what you put underneath. Gently rub your lips in the shower with your washcloth, let a balm absorb for about five minutes, blot away the excess, and only then apply the color. That is how I do it in the salon as well. What you do need to know honestly: a matte color accentuates every little flake that is still there. It hides nothing, it lays color on what is there. That is why those five minutes beforehand make such a difference.
