Why it works

A natural-looking eyebrow is not a single block of color, but made up of individual hairs with spaces in between. That’s why a regular pencil often looks heavy: the tip is too wide for the fine strokes you actually need. This liner has an ultra-fine tip that allows you to create short, hair-thin strokes that look like real hairs—much like the effect of microblading, but washable.

The formula is wax-based, with mineral pigments and antioxidants. The wax ensures the strokes stay exactly where you place them; the manufacturer describes it as long-lasting and smudge-proof. The tip is retractable, so you never need to sharpen it and it stays equally fine. On the other end is a spoolie, a brush to blend everything through afterwards, and that brush is actually the most important part.

For those who have gaps in their eyebrows, from over-plucking in the past or simply due to age. Eyebrows naturally become thinner and lighter over time, usually starting at the outer ends. Even if your eyebrows are naturally thick enough but the tail is sparse, this tool allows for much more precision than a wide pencil.

How to use it

Draw short strokes in the direction your hair grows, focusing on the empty spots; drawing over existing hair doesn't add much. Don't start at the very front: the head of your eyebrow is naturally the lightest and easily becomes too heavy. Build up in layers until you have the shape you want, then brush everything through with the spoolie on the other end. This final step softens any stroke that was too harsh, and it is what makes the difference between drawn-on and natural.

My advice

The skin under your eyebrow is part of the eye area and is thinner than you might think, so don't press hard: let the tip do the work and add an extra stroke if needed rather than pressing down. What I see most often in the treatment room is that a shade is chosen that is too dark. Your eyebrows can almost always be a shade lighter than your hair color, especially if your hair is dark, otherwise your face can look harsh. If you are debating between two shades, choose the lightest: you can always add more, but you can't undo too dark.

And don't try to "fix" one eyebrow by over-drawing the other to match. Eyebrows are sisters, not twins, and that is truly the case.
