Tawny is the deepest, warm-brown shade in this range. A firm, oil-free concealer for the spots you really want to hide: a blemish, a dark spot, or a scar that is still fading.

Why it works

Covering a spot rarely works by applying more foundation. Foundation is made to even out your entire face, not to cover a single point, and the more layers you apply, the heavier it looks without the spot actually disappearing. This camouflage is made specifically for that single point: a high concentration of finely milled mineral pigments in a thick, creamy base, so a pinhead-sized amount is enough for full coverage.

Because there is no oil in the formula, it stays exactly where you put it, even on skin that starts to get shiny throughout the day—exactly where blemishes usually are. Vitamin C and E and rosemary leaf extract act as antioxidants and help protect your skin against external influences. The coverage is high, but the finish still looks like skin rather than a layer of makeup.

About this shade

Tawny is the warmest and deepest of the six: a warm brown with golden-brown undertones, for medium-deep to deep skin. With deeper tones, a concealer that is too light is most easily noticeable, so it is better to choose one that is slightly too dark than too light. The manufacturer does not provide exact depth levels per shade, so if you are in doubt between two colors, feel free to let me know.

For whom

For combination or oily skin with blemishes, for dark spots and hyperpigmentation, for redness around the nose, or scars that are still fading. You can also use it if your skin is dry: just apply your skincare first and use less product, because on a dry surface, a full-coverage formula settles into fine lines more quickly. And you can use it even if you don't wear any other makeup, as it works perfectly on just that one spot.

How to use it

After your skincare, and after your foundation if you wear it. Take a tiny bit on a firm concealer brush or your fingertip and press the product into the skin instead of wiping it. That is the detail that makes the difference: rubbing moves the pigments, and then your coverage is immediately gone. Only blend the edges, not the center, and set it with a little powder if your skin tends to get shiny. One thin layer that you let sit for a moment and then touch up specifically covers better than one thick blob.

What I would like you to know

This is a product that almost everyone uses too much of and applies too broadly. A blemish already has texture; if you apply a thick layer over it, you cover the color but make the bump look bigger, which is exactly what stands out. In the salon, I work with the tip of a brush, right on the discoloration, and only build it up if it still shows through after a minute. And I will be honest: camouflaging is covering, not treating. It won't make the spot go away any faster, and picking at it usually makes it worse. What actually helps the skin is leaving it alone and working on the cause in the meantime, and for that, it's better to look at your skincare than your makeup.
