NeoStrata Bionic Lotion - 200 ml

Why it works

The active ingredients here are polyhydroxy acids: gluconolactone and lactobionic acid, totaling 15 percent. These molecules are larger than glycolic acid, which means they penetrate more slowly and cause far less irritation. You get the exfoliation, but without the harshness.

There is another difference that people rarely know about: polyhydroxy acids also bind moisture themselves. Where a regular fruit acid can leave your skin drier, this does the opposite. They also act as an antioxidant.

The texture is light and the formula is fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, and dermatologically tested.

How to use it

What I would like you to know

This is the product I recommend to anyone who thinks that acids are not for them. Nine times out of ten, it was the concentration or the type that was wrong, not the principle. Polyhydroxy acids are slower, and that slowness is exactly what makes them usable for skin that otherwise turns red.

Do expect to need a little more patience than with glycolic acid. Six weeks is a fair timeframe here.
