Glo Skin Beauty Satin Lipstick - Roaring 20s

A classic lipstick with a satin finish: full color, but with a soft sheen rather than high-shine or flat matte.

Why it works

Lipsticks that stay on for hours usually come at the expense of comfort. Or they stay soft, and end up on your cup after the first sip of coffee. Glo addresses this with kaolin clay in the formula: it absorbs excess oil, allowing the color to set without needing a drying top layer. Meanwhile, shea butter and castor oil keep the lips supple, while vitamin E and green tea extract protect and soothe.

The texture is creamy and glides on smoothly. The finish is satin: you see a sheen, but no mirror effect. The color hardly transfers, melts, or bleeds.

Roaring 20s is a deep berry: dark purple-red, full and cool-toned. The boldest color in the range and a quintessential choice for evening or winter. Because it is so deep, it requires a clean line, so use a lip liner or a fine brush.

Satin is also the middle ground for those who find matte too severe and gloss too slippery. You get the longevity of a lipstick with just enough shine so your lips don't look flat. It is also suitable if your lips tend to feel dry, thanks to the shea butter and oil base.

How to use it

Straight from the bullet, or with a fine brush if you want a sharp edge. The latter makes all the difference with a dark color. For longer wear, fill in your lips completely with a lip pencil first, including the center, and apply the lipstick over it. What often goes wrong: people press their lips together after application, which pushes the color to the edges. Instead, blot once with a tissue and apply a second thin layer.

A tip from me

The question I get asked most often is which color suits someone, and the answer almost never lies in the color itself but in the undertone. Hold the lipstick against the inside of your wrist in daylight: if you see bluish veins, cool colors will suit you better; if you see greenish ones, then warm. That trick takes five seconds and saves you over an hour of doubt. And one more thing: a lipstick lasts longer than you think, but not forever. If it smells waxy or no longer glides on smoothly, it's time to replace it. I personally count on about two years.
