Glo Skin Beauty Satin Lipstick - Napa

A classic lipstick with a satin finish: full color, but with a soft sheen rather than high-gloss or flat matte.

Why it works

Lipsticks that stay on for hours usually do so at the expense of comfort. Or they stay soft, and end up on your cup after the first sip of coffee. Glo addresses this with kaolin clay in the formula: it absorbs excess oil, allowing the color to set without needing a drying top layer. Meanwhile, shea butter and castor oil keep the lips supple, and vitamin E and green tea extract protect and soothe.

The texture is creamy and glides on smoothly from the tube. The finish is satin: you see a sheen, but no mirror-like reflection. The color barely transfers, melts, or feathers.

Napa is a deep plum wine red: dark, cool, and full. An evening color, beautiful with dark hair and cool skin tones. Because it is so highly pigmented, it highlights every irregularity in your lip line, so using a lip liner underneath is definitely worth it here.

How to use it

Straight from the tube, or with a fine brush if you want a sharp edge. The latter makes all the difference with a dark color. If you want it to last longer, fill in your entire lips with a lip pencil first, including the center, and apply the lipstick over it. A common mistake: people press their lips together after application. That just pushes the color toward the edges. Instead, blot once with a tissue and apply a second thin layer.

A final tip

The question I get asked most often is which color suits someone, and the answer is almost never in the color itself, but in the undertone. Hold the tube against the inside of your wrist in daylight: if you see bluish veins, cool colors will suit you better; if you see greenish ones, warm colors will. That trick takes five seconds and saves more than an hour of doubting. And one more thing: a lipstick lasts longer than you think, but not forever. If it smells waxy or no longer glides on smoothly, it is time to replace it. I personally count on about two years.
