Glo Skin Beauty Satin Lipstick - Amaretto

A classic lipstick with a satin finish: full color, but with a soft sheen rather than high-shine or flat matte.

Why it works

Lipstick that stays on for hours usually does so at the expense of comfort. Or it stays soft, and then ends up on your cup after the first sip of coffee. Glo tackles this with kaolin clay in the formula: it absorbs excess oil, allowing the color to set without needing a drying top layer. Meanwhile, shea butter and castor oil keep the lips supple, while vitamin E and green tea extract protect and soothe.

The texture is creamy and glides on smoothly from the bullet. The finish is satin: you see a sheen, but no mirror-like effect. The color barely transfers, melts, or bleeds.

About this shade

Amaretto is a mocha nude: warm brown with beige undertones, muted and deep. It looks particularly beautiful on medium to deep skin tones, where it reads as a groomed, natural color. On a fair complexion, it appears much more pronounced, more brown than nude.

For whom

For those who want a real lipstick rather than a tinted balm: coverage, clear color, and something that lasts all day. Satin is also the middle ground for those who find matte too harsh but gloss too slippery. You get the longevity of a lipstick with just enough sheen to keep the lips from looking flat. Also suitable if your lips tend to feel dry quickly, thanks to the shea butter and oil in the base.

How to use it

Straight from the bullet, or with a fine brush if you want a sharp edge. The latter makes all the difference with a darker shade. If you want it to last longer, fill in your lips completely with a lip pencil first, including the center, and apply the lipstick over it. A common mistake: pressing your lips together after application. That just pushes the color toward the edges. Instead, blot once with a tissue and apply a second, thin layer.

A tip from me to you

The question I get asked most often is which color suits someone, and the answer almost never lies in the color itself, but in the undertone. Hold the lipstick against the inside of your wrist in daylight: if you see bluish veins, cool colors will suit you better; if you see greenish ones, then warm. That trick takes five seconds and saves you more than an hour of hesitation. And another thing: a lipstick lasts longer than you think, but not indefinitely. If it smells waxy or no longer glides on smoothly, it's time. I personally count on about two years.
