Obagi Medical - Hydrate Luxe Moisture-Rich Cream

A rich night cream for skin that still feels tight in the morning, no matter how much you apply during the day.

Why it works

Dry skin usually lacks two things: moisture and oil. If you only replenish moisture, it will evaporate because there is no barrier to hold it in. This cream addresses both. The oil component comes from shea butter, mango seed butter, and avocado oil, which replenish the lipids that drier skin naturally produces too little of. The moisture component comes from an extract of tara bush seeds, which locks water into the upper layers of the skin. Additionally, it contains biomimetic peptides: small protein fragments that your skin recognizes as its own building blocks.

The texture is balmy and thick, but not sticky. The formula is non-comedogenic, so it will not clog your pores.

For whom

For dry or dehydrated skin, and for anyone who finds winter or office air conditioning particularly harsh. It is also great if you use retinol or acids: this is a soft landing after such an active evening.

If you have oily skin, this is likely too rich for every night. Using it once or twice a week on the driest areas works better in that case.

How to use it

In the evening, as the final step after cleansing and your serum. Take a small amount, warm it between your fingertips, and press it into the skin instead of rubbing. Don't forget your neck.

My advice

The mistake I see most often with rich creams: using too much. People think that a thicker cream requires more product, apply a layer that doesn't absorb, and then decide that the product is heavy. A pea-sized amount is sufficient for your entire face. If it still feels greasy after ten minutes, you needed less.

And don't expect results in just one night. Dehydrated skin needs about two weeks to repair its barrier, and you will notice that first through something you don't see: that tight feeling after showering that stops happening.
