Heliocare 360° Water Gel SPF 50+ - 50 ml

The facial sunscreen you'll want to use every single morning, even in November. Light enough not to get in the way, protective enough to replace your day cream.

Why it works

High broad-spectrum protection: SPF 50+ against UVB, and a filter system that also captures UVA, visible light, and infrared. That broad range is more important than the number alone. UVB is the radiation that burns you, UVA is the radiation that goes deeper and is associated with sagging and pigmentation, and it passes right through glass.

On top of that, it contains Fernblock, an extract from the fern Polypodium leucotomos that Heliocare uses throughout its entire range. This isn't a filter, but an antioxidant: filters intercept radiation, while antioxidants work on what happens to the skin despite those filters. In this formula, it is supplemented with ginger extract, vitamin E, and vitamin B5.

The texture is oil-free and exceptionally light, absorbs almost immediately, and leaves a matte, smooth finish. Makeup sits well on top of it.

For whom

For every skin type, including skin prone to breakouts. This is the most neutral choice in the facial range: no tint, no specific correction, just daily protection that doesn't get in the way. If you have distinctly oily skin, you might be better off with the 360 Gel Oil-Free. If your skin is easily red or reactive, look at the Mineral Tolerance or the MD A-R Emulsion.

How to use it

In the morning, as the final skincare step after your serum and before your makeup. The amount you need for your face, ears, and neck is about two fingers' worth: apply the product as a line along your index and middle fingers, from knuckle to fingertip. That is more than you think, and it is exactly the amount used in the lab to measure that SPF 50+.

If you are outdoors, reapply every two hours.

What I would like you to keep in mind

I say it almost every week in the treatment room: the problem is rarely the cream, it's the amount. Those who apply a thin layer in practice likely only get a third of the protection stated on the box. A generous layer and reapplying every two hours is not an exaggeration, it is simply the way the product is intended to be used.

And one more thing: no sunscreen blocks everything. No matter how good it is, it works best in combination with shade, a hat, and a little common sense between twelve and three.
