Glo Skin Beauty Eye Base - Velvet

A creamy eyeshadow base that evens out your eyelid and keeps your eyeshadow exactly where you put it, all day long.

Why it works

Eyeshadow that creases by the afternoon is rarely the fault of the shadow itself. The eyelid is one of the thinnest areas of skin on your face, yet it produces sebum. That thin layer of oil slowly dissolves pigment and pushes it toward the crease. This base first creates an even, lightly tinted film that powder can adhere to.

Furthermore, it corrects color, which is the part most people underestimate. An eyelid is almost never the exact same shade as the rest of your face: often a bit redder, purpler, or darker. If you even that out first, every color you apply on top will look much closer to what you see in the pot.

The formula contains cucumber extract and aloe vera to soothe and hydrate the skin, along with caffeine to make the eye area look fresher. The texture is soft and creamy, remaining flexible as your eyelid moves instead of drying down into a tight film.

For whom

For anyone who wears eyeshadow and notices that it fades or shifts after a few hours. Also suitable for more mature eyelids with fine lines: the thin base layer gives powder something to grip, which prevents it from settling into those lines as quickly. And even if you rarely use eyeshadow, this little pot can be useful. Worn on its own, your eyelid simply looks even and rested.

About this shade

Velvet is a deep, neutral chocolate brown. It is the darkest shade in the range, created for deeper skin tones where lighter base shades leave an ashy cast. When blended out, it also works beautifully as a soft eyeshadow on its own.

How to use it

Using the applicator, apply a thin line to your mobile eyelid and blend immediately with your ring finger or a flat eyeshadow brush, up to just below your brow bone. Work quickly, as the formula sets slightly; if you wait too long to blend, you may be left with edges. Also, use less than you think you need: a thick layer is exactly what will cause creasing later on.

My advice

In the salon, I often see people invest in beautiful eyeshadow only to be disappointed because the color looks different on their lid than it does in the palette. Nine times out of ten, that isn't the fault of the shadow, but of what is underneath—or isn't there at all. This base is the most affordable piece of your eye makeup and, at the same time, the one that makes the biggest difference.

If you are torn between two shades, choose the warmer of the two. Peach and caramel tones neutralize the blue-purple haze that most eyelids have, and that is exactly what you want. And don't expect one pot to last for years: you only need a small streak, but you will be using that streak every single day.
