Why it works

Eyeshadow that creases by the afternoon is rarely the fault of the eyeshadow itself. The eyelid is one of the thinnest pieces of skin on your face, while simultaneously producing sebum. This thin layer of oil slowly dissolves pigment and pushes it toward the crease. This primer first lays down an even, lightly tinted film that powder can adhere to.

Furthermore, it color-corrects, which is the part most people underestimate. An eyelid is almost never exactly the same shade as the rest of your face: it is often redder, purpler, or darker. Once you even that out, any color you apply over it will look much closer to what you see in the jar.

The formula contains cucumber extract and aloe vera to soothe and hydrate the skin, and caffeine to make the eye area look fresher. The texture is soft and creamy and continues to move flexibly with your eyelid, instead of drying down into a tight film.

For whom

For anyone who wears eyeshadow and notices that it has faded or shifted after a few hours. Also for more mature eyelids with fine lines: the thin base layer gives powder something to grip, so it is less likely to settle into those lines. And even if you rarely use eyeshadow, this jar can be useful. Worn alone, your eyelid just looks even and well-rested.

About this shade

Silk is a medium, soft peach. Peach is opposite blue and purple on the color wheel, so it neutralizes the very tones that make an eyelid look dark and tired. The choice if your lid looks shadowy, even on days when you have had plenty of sleep.

How to use it

Use the applicator to apply a thin line to your mobile eyelid and blend it immediately with your ring finger or a flat eyeshadow brush, just up to your brow bone. Work quickly, as the formula sets slightly, and if you wait too long to blend, you may be left with edges. Also, use less than you think you need: a thick layer is exactly what will cause creasing later on.

A tip from me

In the treatment room, I regularly see people invest in beautiful eyeshadow and then feel disappointed because the color looks different on their eyelid than it does in the palette. Nine times out of ten, that is not because of the shadow, but because of what is underneath—or isn't there at all. This primer is the most inexpensive part of your eye makeup, yet it is the piece that makes the biggest difference.

If you are torn between two shades, choose the warmer of the two. Peach and caramel tones neutralize the blue-purple haze that most eyelids have, and that is exactly what you want. And don't expect one jar to last for years: you only need a small streak, but you will use that streak every single day.
