Description
A fresh, fruity flavour for those who find chocolate and vanilla too heavy to drink in the morning.
What it is
A plant-based meal replacement powder. Mix two level scoops, totalling 65 grams, with approximately 300 ml of water or a plant-based drink. That is one complete meal, not a snack.
One bag contains 850 grams, enough for about thirteen shakes.
What's inside
The base is pea protein, oat flour, and inulin, with linseed oil and sunflower oil powder for fats. Sweetened with steviol glycosides from stevia, and thickened with xanthan gum. In addition, a long list of vitamins and minerals: A, C, D3, E, K1, and B vitamins, plus iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium, potassium, manganese, copper, chromium, iodine, and selenium.
Please note if you avoid gluten: it contains oat flour, which contains gluten. It is free from lactose and soy, and no sugar has been added.
Nutritional value per 65-gram shake
248 kcal, 6.5 g fat of which 0.9 g is saturated, 15.2 g carbohydrates of which 2.4 g is sugar, 7.4 g fibre, 28.0 g protein, and 1.6 g salt.
Proteins contribute to the maintenance of muscle mass. With twenty-eight grams per serving, that claim is applicable here.
Who it's for
For those who can barely get anything down in the morning and therefore skip breakfast. A fruity flavour in cold water often goes down easier. Also for those who are on the road in the afternoon and would otherwise buy a sandwich at a petrol station. Not for those who avoid gluten, and not during pregnancy or breastfeeding without consulting your doctor.
How to use it
One shake in place of one meal. Two a day is fine, but I advise against three: then you aren't eating anymore, and that is never the intention. Mix with cold water, shake vigorously, and drink it immediately. Strawberry works best with ice-cold water, not with plant-based milk.
Take your time with it. A shake can be finished in two minutes, while it takes your body fifteen minutes to register that you have eaten.
What I'd like to share with you
This flavour contains a bit more sugar than the vanilla and chocolate versions: two and a half grams instead of less than one. That is still very low, but I think it is more honest to tell you that rather than leaving it out.
What I see in practice: people choose their flavour based on what they like on the first day, not on what they will still like on day twenty. Most people stick with fruity flavours longer than sweet ones. If you are debating between strawberry and chocolate and you have to stick with it for a month, choose the fruit.
And the golden rule remains: a shake replaces a meal, not a dietary pattern.
