Why it works

Shine and care rarely go hand in hand: many shiny lip products look great, but dry out your lips in the process because they lack nourishing ingredients. This formula is built around shea butter and mango seed oil, two fats that sit on the lip and lock in moisture. This is combined with an antioxidant complex of vitamins C and E and plant extracts, which protects the lips against external aggressors. The shine therefore doesn't come from a separate layer on top, but from the fatty base itself. This is precisely why it isn't sticky.

The texture is creamy and glides on without tugging. It delivers full color payoff while still feeling like a balm, not makeup.

About this shade

Bonjour is a deep, neutral pink. It definitely has more color than the nudes in this range, but it remains a pink rather than a red. Because the undertone is neutral, it rarely clashes with any skin tone. A great choice if you are looking for a color you can wear both during the day and in the evening.

For whom

For those whose lips feel dry or tight easily and therefore usually stick to a balm: here you get that same comfort, but with color. It's also great if you notice your lips getting thinner, as shine catches the light and makes the lips appear fuller than a matte color would. And if you normally don't wear lipstick because it's too much of a hassle: this is a pencil you can apply without a mirror.

How to use it

Trace the edge of your lip with the tip first, then fill in. You can also layer it over a matte lip crayon to add depth to the color instead of a flat look. What often goes wrong: pressing too hard. The formula is soft, you need very little pressure, and this helps the tip last longer. Sharpen it occasionally with a crayon sharpener. By the way, it also works on the cheeks and eyelids, which is handy if you want a coordinated look across your entire face.

My advice

In the treatment room, I often see dry lips that are then covered with a matte color, which only makes them look tighter. If your lips are flaky, don't start with color but with a day or two of balm, then reach for this crayon. It simply looks much better on smooth lips. And honestly: shine doesn't last as long as matte. Expect a few hours of wear and keep it in your bag. That's not a flaw in the formula, that's just what shine does.
