Obagi Medical - C-Cleansing Gel

A fresh cleansing gel that removes makeup, sebum, and the day's impurities without leaving your skin feeling tight.

Why it works

Cleansing is the step where most mistakes are made, and rarely because people don't cleanse enough. A harsh cleanser removes not only the dirt but also the lipid layer that protects your skin. Your skin reacts by producing more sebum, resulting in the kind of oily skin that is already shiny by two in the afternoon. This gel cleanses with milder surfactants and contains aloe, which binds moisture and soothes the skin. Additionally, it contains L-ascorbic acid, the pure form of vitamin C, which provides some antioxidant benefits during the cleansing process.

The gel lathers lightly and rinses off completely. Your skin feels fresh after drying, not squeaky clean.

For whom

For normal to oily or combination skin, and for those who wear makeup. Also for those whose skin looks a bit dull: the vitamin C here doesn't make the biggest difference, but it belongs to the rest of the Obagi-C range, in which the C-Balancing Toner and the C-Clarifying Serum do the actual work.

If you have dry or easily tight skin, the Nu-Derm Gentle Cleanser is a better fit.

How to use it

Morning and evening. Wet your face first, take a small amount, and massage in circular motions for half a minute, including along the hairline and jawline. Rinse with lukewarm water, not hot. If you wear heavy or waterproof makeup, use an oil cleanser first, followed by this gel.

What I'd like to share with you

What I notice most often in the salon is that people don't cleanse long enough. Five seconds over the face and rinse. A cleanser needs time to do its job, and thirty seconds feels longer than you think, so feel free to count along. The difference lies in what you apply afterwards: on truly clean skin, your serum simply absorbs better.

And let go of that squeaky feeling after washing as a standard. That is not a sign of clean; that is a sign that your skin barrier has just taken a hit. Your skin should feel soft and supple after cleansing, not tight.
