Description
A serum for skin that reacts to everything: turns red from a new product, feels tight after showering, stings when you apply sunscreen. It doesn’t work on one visible problem, but on the wall surrounding it.
Why it works
Your skin barrier is the top layer of cells with a kind of cement made of fats in between. When that is in good shape, it keeps moisture in and irritants out. If it becomes weakened by the sun, pollution, over-scrubbing, or a routine that was too harsh, everything affects your skin more intensely and you lose moisture constantly. Niacinamide, the second ingredient here, supports the production of those exact fats in the spaces between cells. Hyaluronic acid is included in two molecular sizes: the large molecules stay on the surface to retain moisture, while the small ones penetrate deeper. And Edafence, an extract from the Antarctic grass Deschampsia antarctica, helps the skin defend itself against pollution.
The texture is light and non-sticky. You can apply makeup or sunscreen over it without waiting.
For whom
For skin with early signs of aging that is simultaneously off balance: after a strict treatment, after the summer, in a cold winter, or after a period in which you tried too many products at once. Also for those who actually have oily skin. Oily and damaged skin go together more often than people think, and the formula is non-comedogenic.
How to use it
Apply morning and evening to cleansed skin, before your cream. Gently massage in with circular motions and include your neck. Preferably apply to skin that is still slightly damp from your cleanser or toner, as the hyaluronic acid will bind that moisture instead of drawing it out of your skin.
My advice
The manufacturer had this serum tested and reports a stronger barrier after just one week. I prefer to be cautious: what you will notice most in that first week is comfort. Less tightness, less stinging, less redness after cleansing. Rebuilding your barrier truly takes weeks, and it only succeeds if you also stop doing whatever is damaging it. That list is almost always the same: water that is too hot, scrubbing too often, and too many active products used together. I regularly see people with five jars on the shelf that, combined, do more harm than good. Sometimes less is truly more.
