Why it works

Eyeshadow that creeps into your eyelid crease by the afternoon is rarely the fault of the eyeshadow itself. The eyelid is one of the thinnest pieces of skin on your face and produces sebum at the same time. That thin layer of oil slowly dissolves pigment and pushes it toward the crease. This base first lays down an even, lightly tinted film that powder can adhere to.

In addition, it color-corrects, which is the part most people underestimate. An eyelid is almost never the exact same shade as the rest of your face: it's often a bit redder, purpler, or darker. Once you even that out, any color you apply over it comes much closer to what you see in the jar.

The formula contains cucumber extract and aloe vera, which soothe and hydrate the skin, and caffeine, which makes the eye contour look fresher. The texture is soft and creamy and stays flexible, moving with your eyelid instead of drying down into a tight layer.

For whom

For anyone who wears eyeshadow and notices that it has faded or shifted after a few hours. Also for more mature eyelids with fine lines: the thin base layer gives powder hold, so it is less likely to settle into those lines. And even if you rarely use eyeshadow, this little jar can be useful. Worn on its own, your eyelid just looks even and well-rested.

About this shade

Cashmere is a medium-deep, warm caramel. A golden-brown base that adds warmth to your eyelid and pairs beautifully with bronze, copper, and warm-brown eyeshadows. On lighter skin, you can also use it on its own as a soft, lived-in color.

How to use it

Use the applicator to apply a thin line to your mobile eyelid and blend it immediately with your ring finger or a flat eye brush, just up to your brow bone. Work quickly, because the formula sets slightly, and if you wait too long to blend, you will be left with edges. Also, use less than you think you need: a thick layer is exactly what will cause it to crease later on.

What I would like to share

In the treatment room, I regularly see people invest in beautiful eyeshadow and then feel disappointed because the color looks different on their eyelid than it does in the palette. Nine times out of ten, that isn't due to the shadow, but to what is—or isn't—underneath it. This base is the least expensive part of your eye makeup and yet the part that makes the most difference.

If you are doubting between two shades, choose the warmer of the two. Peach and caramel tones neutralize the blue-purple haze that most eyelids have, and that is exactly what you want. And don't expect one jar to last for years: you only need a thin line, but you will be using that line every day.
